Some suggested uses of THEi Moodle

  • Upload learning material (Hide/Show)
  • Upload the online class recording
  • Create additional small clips to provide rich learning content
  • Create a discussion forum to promote peer-to-peer learning
  • Setup Assignment / Turnitin to collect student work (clearly shown the date and time of submission)
  • Create rubric and assess student work, send out scores and comments to students through Moodle
  • Send a message to all to alert any updates
  • Have students install Moodle on mobile phones so that they can be alerted for any updates

Articulate Storyline 360

  • To prepare multimedia and interactive self-study courseware
  • Send LC your teaching ppt, we will help convert into multimedia and interactive self-study courseware by Articulate Storyline 360 and post to Moodle for students' access
  • Create an account and download the software for a 30-day free trial
  • After the free trial, you can send email to LC of your account to loan a 7-day period license right to use the software, with another 7-day renewal

Video conferencing and collaboration tools

For video conferencing and collaborative work:

  • Microsoft Teams (as a priority)
  • Zoom
  • Citrix GoToWebinar

Features supported include audio and video conferencing, screen sharing, chat and presence functionality and file transfer.

One-Button Studio

  • LC (CW) provides a space for video recording
  • Lighting and video camera are ready, simply step a button to start/stop
  • Insert a USB to start and get back the USB when finish

  • THEi students are granted with a MS Teams account starting from AY2020/21. VTC will prepare relevant resources to inform and guide the existing and new students. Please encourage staff to attend relevant training provided by CLT in August.

Articulate Storyline Loan

  • THEi teaching staff can request a 7-day loan for use, with one renewal of another 7-day.
  • The user to download  and use the 30 days free trial first.
  • The user needs to use an email and self-create a password to sign in and to download to install.
  • The user to send email login to thei-lc@vtc.edu.hk to request a loan of the license for use
  • LC will assign license rights for the account to use Articulate Storyline.

A teaching class

  1. Start the unit: small group discussion, IRS Q&A
  2. Test and study: read a short paragraph, IRS Q&A, small group discussion

  5. Conclusion: teacher debrief, ask one student to apply the knowledge to a case

A flipped teaching class

  1. teacher uploads teaching material to LMS
  2. students at home using mobile / tablet / iPad to view teaching video clips or read learning material

A teaching model: Revision and Preparation Model

  1. start the class, the teacher asks 5 MCQ (2-3 revision questions, 2-3 new material questions)
  2. students answer
  3. teacher check each question's correct rate: >75% Most students understand and teacher will teach lightly; <50% Most students do not understand and teacher will teach more carefully

IRS

  1. IRS Q&A the teacher understands students' cognition and focuses on students' weaknesses
  2. Take a photo of each student's work and upload to interactive whiteboard

  6. The teacher compares the responses to see if all students get the correct answers

IRS Model 2

  1. The teacher starts the class by asking 4 questions, 3 MCQ and 1 fill-in-the-blank (the teacher does not teach the content but ask students to answer, solve problems and discuss in groups)
  2. Students calculate and use IRS to answer
  3. The teacher collects the answer of each student
  4. Q4 has no choice, the teacher selects three students to tell their answers, marked as choice 1, 2, 3
  5. The teacher asks each student to choice from the 3 choices, if not, choose choice 4 (the teacher gets the answer choice from students)
  6. The teacher shows the answers chart and keeps at the interactive whiteboard
  7. The teacher discusses the class content and study activities for 30 min
  8. The teacher goes back to the revision and preparation questions
  9. The teacher requires students to calculate again, and allow them to choose answers again for the 4 questions (the teacher does not give the answers but let students find out and amend as they wish)
  10. The teacher compares the first trial and the second trial
  11. To Q4, the teacher asks if there are any more answers and keeps one as choice 4
  12. Ask students to answer again
